Custom product handling

Your product doesn't fit a box.
Neither does our solution.

Some shipments are one of a kind — unique prototypes, classified assemblies, or products that span multiple regulatory frameworks simultaneously. We build bespoke logistics pathways from scratch.

Regulatory pathway design
We research and map the exact Indian regulatory pathway for any novel or hybrid product — including products that sit between classifications or have no direct HS code precedent.
Dedicated customs liaison
For novel shipments, we assign a dedicated customs liaison officer who interfaces directly with CBIC, port authorities and the relevant test authority — no hand-offs, no information loss.
IP & confidentiality protocols
Custom NDA frameworks, tamper-evident packaging, and sealed chain-of-custody documentation for products whose design IP must be protected throughout the entire import journey.
Multi-modal custom routing
Air, sea, road and bonded warehouse combinations designed for time-critical or temperature/vibration-sensitive prototypes that standard freight networks cannot handle safely.

Legal & regulatory framework

We operate by the book.
Every jurisdiction.

Novastones conducts all logistics operations in full compliance with Indian government law, international shipping conventions and global trade regulations. Our processes are designed around these frameworks — not around them.

Indian Government Law
Customs Act, 1962
Governs all import and export of goods into India. All Novastones shipments comply with Section 12 (dutiable goods) and applicable exemption notifications under the Foreign Trade Policy.
Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992
DGFT licensing and import authorisations are secured under this Act and the current Foreign Trade Policy (FTP 2023) for all restricted and canalised goods.
Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940 (Medical Devices Rules 2017)
Medical device imports for testing require CDSCO Import Licence under Form MD-14 / NOC under Rule 35. We manage these filings end-to-end.
International Conventions
IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR)
All DG shipments — particularly Li-ion batteries under UN3480 / UN3481 — are prepared and documented in accordance with the current IATA DGR edition and ICAO Technical Instructions.
WCO Harmonised System (HS) Convention
Correct HS code classification under the WCO HS system is applied to every shipment, ensuring accurate duty assessment and eligibility for applicable exemptions.
Incoterms® 2020 (ICC)
All contractual logistics arrangements reference Incoterms® 2020 rules, defining risk transfer, insurance obligations and cost allocation between shipper, Novastones and the receiving lab.
From the regulatory framework
"Goods imported into India for the purpose of testing shall be eligible for exemption from customs duty subject to re-export within the stipulated time period, as notified under the Customs (Import of Goods at Concessional Rate of Duty) Rules."
Ministry of Finance, India · Customs Act 1962, IGCR Rules 2017
"Lithium ion batteries must be offered for transport in a manner that prevents short circuits, and must be accompanied by documentation that certifies the cells or batteries meet the requirements of the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria."
IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations · Section 3.9.2 / UN3480 / UN3481
"No person shall import any medical device unless he holds a licence granted by the Central Licensing Authority in Form MD-15… provided that no licence shall be required for import of medical devices for the purpose of examination, test or analysis."
Medical Devices Rules 2017, Rule 35 · Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, India
"Incoterms® 2020 rules describe the obligations, risks and costs involved in the international transportation and delivery of goods, including provisions for transport-related security obligations."
International Chamber of Commerce · Incoterms® 2020 Introduction
Novastones Compliance Commitment
Novastones operates exclusively within the legal framework established by the Government of India, international trade conventions and the regulatory authorities of each origin country. Every shipment is structured to satisfy the letter of applicable law — including the Customs Act 1962, the Foreign Trade Policy 2023, IATA DGR, WCO HS Convention, Incoterms® 2020, and all sector-specific rules under BIS, CDSCO, WPC and BEE. We do not seek workarounds. We build compliant pathways.
